Katia Lubavskaya is a multidisciplinary artist who works mainly with objects and installations. Her practice balances on the edge of art and design, where the line is now blurred. Following the rule that design solves a problem, but art expresses a feeling or an idea, sometimes it’s difficult to determine which area of artistic practice Katia’s work belongs to. She explores a wide range of subjects, from fairy tales to post-internet culture. By combining irony with purity of thought, Katia presents her perception of the world of objects in the age of fakes and illusions, where the boundary is also ephemeral. Using unusual materials she’s combining them with traditional techniques such as knitting and embroidery.
Katia graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute and exhibited at Venice Biennale of Architecture. Recent exhibitions include group exhibition ‘Environment’ in MOMMA, Moscow and group show ‘Nor Applicable’ by Cream Athens foundation, UK.
