Aleksandr Gordeev

Alexander Gordeev is a young Russian artist who lives and works in Paris. He primarily works with graphics, poetry, and installation. His artistic practice is an autobiographical exploration, where each series of works reflects different aspects of his personal and professional life. He considers himself and his own experience as a ready-made—a pre-existing object of art—examining themes of self-aestheticization, self-objectification, and viewing oneself from a third-person perspective.Inspired by his experience as a model, Gordeev pays special attention to poses, bodily memory, and their connection to a person's emotional and cognitive state. In his works, he employs visual techniques from the fashion industry as artistic tools, exploring the impact of past personal and collective experiences on the present self. One of his most significant projects is the Asemic Letters series (2020), inspired by calligraphy and marking a turning point in his career.

Since 2022, Gordeev has been organizing and curating poetry readings featuring various authors, exploring poetry as an artistic medium. These readings have taken place in Russia, France, Denmark, and Germany. He has participated in exhibitions both in Russia and abroad, including Galerie Charraudeau (Paris), CICA Museum (Seoul), and Serene Gallery (Moscow), as well as the 11th season of Open Studios at Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art. His works are held in private collections in Russia and internationally.
